DEMOLITION DERBY RULES AND REGULATIONS
September 2024
1. All drivers must be 17 years or over and hold a current driver’s license – P plate minimum.
2. All drivers enter at their own risk and must read, understand and sign the appropriate
waiver form. This is to be signed before the commencement of the derby and be witnessed by
a member of the show committee.
3. Drivers should present themselves to the show office at least an hour before scrutineering
to have all documents signed and get any updates about the event.
4. Scrutineering will be at 3pm AEDT all cars must be present before this time. No
exceptions. Please ensure your car is to the standard of these rules.
THE VEHICLES
1. All cars must be of average sedan size. Station wagons, utes and panel vans are permitted
to compete.
2. Four-wheel-drives and full chassis vehicles are not permitted to compete.
3. Any all-wheel-drive vehicles should have one of the powered axles disconnected to make
the vehicle a two-wheel-drive
4. The vehicle must be retained at its original height, i.e. no alteration to the suspension.
5. Scrutineers will be inspecting all competing vehicles and will enforce all rules and
regulations.
6. No drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be allowed to compete. Random
drug and alcohol testing may occur prior to the commencement of the event.
7. No passengers will be permitted to travel in the vehicles.
8. No internal or external reinforcement permitted with the exception of the drivers door.
9. The driver’s door must be filled with concrete. No exceptions
10. A rollbar must be fitted behind the driver’s seat. This must go from the floor to the roof.
11. This is to be made from a minimum of 50mmx50mm box section or 50mm pipe. Two
uprights would be preferred.
12. All glass plastic and other interior components are to be removed from the vehicle.
Passenger and back seats must be removed.
13. All doors and boot/tailgate must be chained or strapped shut. The strapping is to be a
minimum of 1”x1 ¼” or equivalent.
14. All drivers must wear crash helmet and all cotton clothing. And steel capped footwear.
Gloves are optional.
15. All drivers must wear a seat belt, seat belts must be in good condition. The vehicle must
not contain any rust in the seat or seat belt mountings.16. An approved 5L fuel container must be fastened in the centre rear of the vehicle, where
the back seat was for a sedan or in the tray for a ute.
17. A maximum of five (5) litres of petrol is permitted in the fuel tank.
18. The tailgates on utes must remain in place.
19. Any vehicle that has competed before and is bent so that the vehicle sits at an unsafe
height, must be pushed back down i.e. back of utes.
20. The vehicles original fuel tank must either be removed or be punctured with a minimum
½” hole.
21. If the original fuel line is not being used, your fuel line must follow the original route as
closely as possible. Any new fuel line should be of the original specification and should have
rubber grommets where it passes through the firewall.
22. The tow bar and tongue must be removed.
23. The bonnet must be chained closed. But should be accessible for scrutineering.
24. All boots and tailgates are to be welded closed and any spare tyres must be removed.
25. Mud guards and wheel arches must not be cut away or bent. Unless for repairing from
another derby. This will be scrutineered.
26. Where possible, standard car tyres should be used. NO TRACTOR TYRES
27. The battery must have a rubber cover securely bolted over the top. It maybe be fitted to
the cabin area but must have grommets where it passes through the firewall.
28. The radiator should be in its original position but have the fan blades removed.
29. Vehicles are not required to be fitted with a muffler.
30. A pink or red cross is to be painted on the driver’s door.
31. Each vehicle is to be numbered with the number displayed on the roof. Your name and
car number must be written on the sheet at the show office prior to the event.
32. Steel mesh must be welded on the driver’s half of the windscreen and the drivers window.
IN THE RING
1. An area will be marked on the arena to show the boundary. Any vehicles driving over
boundary may be eliminated.
2. Any vehicle deliberately hitting the driver’s door of another vehicle will be disqualified.
3. Reverse and first gear must be used at all times.
4. If a vehicle stops, a maximum of two (2) minutes is allowed to restart the vehicle. If it does
not start within this time you will be disqualified.
5. All drivers must remain in their vehicle until the event is completed.
6. The winner of the competition will be the last vehicle still being driven.Page 1 of 2
